An IT-manager-turned-fashion-designer, Edye Sanford emerged on the Baltimore fashion scene more than 20 years ago with a collection of children’s hats for the Hampden boutique Oh! Said Rose. The whimsical-yet-practical hats were quickly recognized as Baltimore Magazine’s “Best Kiddie Caps.” Her line steadily expanded to include retro-inspired, hip clothing and accessories for women, children, men, and the home. Thirteen years ago, she was thrilled and honored to begin in-depth study of bridal and formal wear under the expert eye of Baltimore’s Best Tailor Rae Cumbie, allowing Sanford to fulfill clients’ wishes for all kinds of creative garments in even more inventive ways.
Sanford is an active member of numerous community and professional organizations and enjoys volunteering to teach a variety of sewing skills in Baltimore City Public Schools. She lives in the Hampden neighborhood of Baltimore with her husband, two-and-a-half rescue pugs, and a house bunny. She and her husband are the proud parents of two University of MD graduates.
Sarah: I worked with Edye to help design my perfect wedding dress. I could not find what I was looking for in the bridal stores and Edye made a beautiful lace dress. She really took the time to listen to what I was looking for in a dress and worked very hard to make everything perfect. Edye was very responsive during the design and sewing process and was a joy to work with. She made me my dream wedding dress.
Charlotte: I was referred to Edye by another seamstress. I am so happy that I was able to receive Edye’s services! She was wonderful! I needed to have alterations on my wedding dress. I was very worried about the process and especially concerned because my dress was lace. When I met Edye, my worry and stress about the process was alleviated quickly. She was so calming and comforting and immediately got to work on my dress. I knew I was in good hands. Edye communicated with me through the whole process and always made herself available when I had a question. My dress looks beautiful and fits me perfectly! Edye did such a beautiful job, especially on the lace trim and the bustle. When you use Edye’s services you won’t have to worry or stress, she is wonderful!
Shannon: I asked Edye to take on the daunting task of transforming my wedding gown into a Christening gown for my daughter. Not only was it beautiful, but it was almost an exact replica! She kept me posted throughout the process through pictures, phone calls, & emails. I was so thrilled with the final product that I asked to keep the left over material for Maddie’s Communion!
Anne: I asked Edye to teach a small group of girls, age 12, how to sew last summer. Edye came up with a weeklong camp that was fun and informative. The girls could not wait to sew their outfits and each day Edye taught them a new skill and engaged them in the art and fun of sewing. And they not only learned how to sew, but Edye organized a trip to a fabric store to show them all the different materials and how you choose the best pattern and fabric, and measure the right amount to use. They were all so proud at the end of the week when, on top of many little pillows, purses and headbands, they each had a beautiful dress that they were able to wear throughout the summer. It was a wonderful experience! Everyone should be introduced to sewing by Edye.
